Rockville Residents Deserve the Truth
It’s no wonder that a lot of folks are cynical when it comes to politics. All of a sudden, you see an elected official in your neighborhood when you didn’t see them in the non-election years. Candidates promise and say just about anything to sway voters. But are they telling you the truth?
The truth is hard. And often people ignore hard conversations, it’s in our nature. But every resident and every voter in this City deserves to have candidates who tell you what they think on an issue. We can disagree, and that’s a healthy part of our democracy. I have had great conversations with folks who didn’t agree with something I said. At the end of the conversation, we both came away with real respect for each other.
I will always listen to you - I don’t have all the answers nor should I. The answers to our City’s issues require community input, and a lot of candidates are assuming they know what’s best for you. That was my frustration as a community leader in Twinbrook.
That’s why I strongly support Monique Ashton to be our next Mayor of Rockville. I saw her talking to residents in Twinbrook, listening to their issues, and I saw it many times. She would reach out to me to gather resident concerns and hear about what was happening in our neighborhood. Monique truly cares about reaching out. That’s the truth.
The truth is that I support all the ballot measures on the ballot this year. I’m on record already as recommending them as I was part of the Charter Review Commission. We were tasked with reviewing ways to get more residents engaged in voting in Rockville. My answers publicly are the same as my answers privately, and that’s the kind of Councilmember I will be. I know there are a variety of viewpoints on the ballot measures, and the debates around them have been informative and engaging. If I earn your vote and I am elected on November 7, I will advocate strongly for a series of town halls throughout the City to hear from more residents on the ballot measures before any decision is made. That should be the standard, not the exception.
The truth is that my family and I are very much working class, and that’s how I am campaigning. You may not get a lot of flash and glamor from me, but you’ll get the hardest working Councilmember you’ve ever seen. It takes real effort to make sure our streets and sidewalks are safe for everyone. It requires hard work to look at all possible solutions to our housing crisis. These are complex issues without a single solution, and they need hard-working Councilmembers to get the job done.
I’m ready to work hard for every single resident in Rockville. And that’s the truth.
